How to decide

Tips before you go

  • Cleaners usually beat tailor shops on flat prices. The cleaners in our hemming guide list $15–$25 for a plain pants hem, while Santa Monica Tailor by Bello lists trouser alterations at $35–$95.
  • Skip the original hem if you don't need it. Keeping the factory hem on jeans adds roughly $5–$12 at every shop that lists both.
  • Get a quote before leather or bridal work. Lory's Denim & Leather Clinic: One reviewer reports a $380 quote for leather-jacket sleeve and waist work, so get a quote first. At MH Tailoring & Alterations: One reviewer reported paying about $250 to alter leather jacket sleeves. Ask for a quote first.
  • Compare with delivery. Several LA cleaners pick up and deliver; see the dry cleaning price guide.
