A basic pants hem costs about $15–$25 at LA cleaners that post prices (Cleaners Depot lists $14.95; The Cleaning Club lists $25). Jeans with the original hem run $25–$32, dress hems start at $25–$45, and a dedicated tailor quotes more: Santa Monica Tailor by Bello lists trousers at $35–$95 and dress hems at $35–$75.

What changes the price
Why quotes vary
- Original hem costs more. Keeping the factory hem on jeans adds roughly $5–$12 over a plain hem at every shop above that lists both.
- Lining, cuffs and layers. Lined pants, cuffs and multi-layer dresses each carry their own, higher line item (The Cleaning Club lists $100+ for a three-layer dress hem).
- Cleaner vs. tailor shop. Cleaners with in-house seamstresses post the lowest flat prices; dedicated tailors such as Bello quote ranges because fit work varies.
- Fabric. Leather and heavily embellished pieces are priced separately (Prestige lists leather hems at $55+ and embellished work at $140+).
